Summary: "Huh? Wait! Kagome, what did you say?!"
"Hey, Inuyasha, wait up!"
Inuyasha paused in midstep. He'd been headed toward the campus library to do a little studying. But it seemed that Fate had other ideas.
He turned, seeing a classmate run up to him. She looked familiar, and he could remember them having a few class periods together. "Oh, hey, there... Kagome, wasn't it?"
"Yep, that's me," Kagome confirmed with a smile. "I know you're probably busy, so I won't keep you for too long. But I was hoping that I could ask you for a tiny favor."
"Huh. Well, what's the favor, then?"
Inuyasha watched, bewildered, as Kagome wrung her hands together nervously. "Well...I have this class project coming up, and I need some help. So I was wondering...if maybe you'd be willing to partner up with me? I know that you're an exchange student from Han'yō Academy, and I was hoping that you could give me a nonhuman perspective to work with."
"Is that all," Inuyasha asked. He shrugged a bit, taking in the look of faint hope on Kagome's face, and the way her fingers suddenly crossed. She must have some report to write on han'yō, and needed to interview him. "Sure, if you want. Call me this evening, and we'll talk about it."
Bouncing in place, Kagome eagerly jotted down the phone number that he rattled off to her. "Oh, thank you, Inuyasha! You don't know what this means to me! Trust me, you won't regret it! Bye for now. I'll call you sometime after dinner."
Then, Kagome turned on her heel, jogging up to a group of her friends. They were watching her every move, and looked every bit as concerned as she herself had moments earlier.
"Guess what," he could just hear her announce to the girls. "He said yes! Inuyasha promised to be my test subject for the science fair next month!"
Inuyasha gaped, staring as the cluster of girls squealed with delight. He jogged toward them, crying out in protest. "Huh? Wait! Kagome, what did you say?!"
Too late. Kagome and her friends had already run off, presumably to cheer together over Kagome's apparent good fortune. He sagged in dismay.
"What the hell have I gotten myself into now," he feebly groaned.
