Summary: "Make a wish, and it will then come true."
One night, not too long ago, I had such a strange dream. The more thought I give it--and God knows I've given it plenty--the more I believe it may have been a nightmare.
I stood in this void, surrounded by formless energy.
"Make a wish," the energy said to me, sounding just like static. "Make a wish, and it will then come true."
"I wish to see Japan," I blurted, before I could think anything through. I'd always wanted to go, but life had never given me the chance.
"Granted," the energy replied.
I blinked--if one can blink in dreams--and I was in the middle of a neon paradise that, as far as I could tell, was something like Japan. One of the trendier areas of Tokyo, perhaps.
And then I woke up. Feeling cheated, all I could do was hope that the dream would repeat itself.
Another night, it did. And I was back in Dream Neon Japan again, the energy still accompanying me.
"Wish," it ordered. "Wish."
"Show me a samurai," I muttered, disgusted with the energy's seeming impatience.
"Granted."
And then there stood before me such an odd sight. A robotic-looking creature, all in feudal armor, clutching at a katana.
I awoke again. My heart pounded, with confusion and fear. Why had the energy in my dream been so demanding of me? And why was I feeling that the would-be samurai it showed me radiated some manner of menace?
What are these dreams trying to tell me? Or what are they hiding from me?
Whatever it might be, I'm afraid to dream again, lest I find out.
